After procrastinating a few hours by updating this blog, I drill holes in the MZ cylinder cooling fins, mount the exhaust with motocross exhaust springs, and put the leg shields and silencer back in their place. Now it's just waiting until tomorrow, to when the copper paste has cured for 24 hours, after which I'll ride the bike. If it works and power is back, I'm on a MZ vacation again. If not, I'll continue on the Nimbus.
After all that wrenching it is time for some fun and relaxation, so Travis and Eric get out the guns: A silver H&K and a more traditional looking Colt Trooper 3. This is the first time I've ever shot a pistol, and as it turns out, rabbits and other wildlife has nothing to fear from me. Nor do the empty cans I'm aiming for. The H&K is by far the easiest to handle, while the heavier Colt shoots bigger rounds and the recoil is harder. A couple of dozens shots later I'm satisfied with having finally tried that sort of thing.
We get the Nimbus out of the trailer and look it over, fire it up and decide to change the sidecar gears to the solo ones, that were shipped over with the bike. In this Travis and Eric have their roles; Travis disassembles and cleans, Eric does the assessment and assembly. We get to the point where a new bearing is needed, and ordered so we'll get it tomorrow.
Note half a tooth missing on the smaller sidecar gear.
Having caught a hummingbird in the greenhouse, Travis releases it outside.
Sign on one of the 4WD Subarus states clearly what the owner thinks of the current administration. Travis get mostly thumbs ups, though also the occasional one-finger salute.
